Enigma
Fun weekend at West Kennet and Avebury (Wiltshire)

Friday night and I left work early to pack the caravan; all was going well as we set off. It wasn't long before we hit the traffic on the M4 motorway and the rain!
It rained all the way to Avebury, but as we arrived it broke north of the village. The campsite was at the Barge Inn, Honeystreet, six miles south of Avebury. As we set up the caravan there was a fresh breeze but at least the rain had stopped.

After the caravan was completed, it was time for the nine-man dome tent to be put up. That involved spreading it over a large area just as the wind started to get up! It was like trying to hold down a giant parachute! But we managed to get it pegged down just as the wind dropped! I was beginning to think that somebody up there didn't want us there!

As Friday night progressed our guest's started to arrive. Malcolm Robinson from SPI, Ellen, Graham and Lois from Nightwatch UK and Mandy, Hollie, Helen, Mike and Mark from Enigma. And then, guess what? Yep, you've guessed it, it started to rain!

The Barrow was very wet inside, but the amount of people visiting it was amazing,

Saturday morning and we woke up to the sound of rain hammering against the canvas. After we were all ready, we decided to go to the pub and have a few beers and a game of pool while we waited for a break in the weather. A few hours later the sun came out "whoopee!" we thought and left the pub only to feel drops of rain again by the time we reached the campsite! So back to the pub we went!

By the time the afternoon came, the weather had cleared enough for us to get to Avebury, but not for long, the rain started again and so we invaded the local pub The Red Lion. More drink! Coffee that is! Helen wanted so much to go to West Kennett Long Barrow that we decided against all odds to go. On the way I mentioned the wind was now getting up to gale force and the sideways rain was a bit much! So Helen relented and we all went back to the campsite for more coffee and alcohol this time! By this time it was approaching 12pm, HELEN'S BIRTHDAY!

I managed to get her a birthday cake and roses earlier but these were locked in the caravan, so off I went with the help of Mandy to get them. When we got back to the tent looking like a pair of drowned rats! We huddled in the corner while Mandy managed to light the cake with a soggy lighter from her pocket so the cake was perfect and we all sang Happy Birthday. By this time the rain was coming down so hard we had to raise our voices to be heard! In the end we did manage to do some remote viewing but not any of the things we wanted to do.

Sunday morning I found myself cooking a fried breakfast for nine people. Mmmmmmm, very nice! Even the sun was out! but not for long, down came the rain again! Oh well! off to West Kennet Long Barrow for a last try. By the time we got there the rain had actually stopped! So we all trudged up through the muddy path to the barrow. The barrow was very wet inside, but that didn't stop
Unfortunately because of the amount of people that were there, we could not do any experiments, so we made our way back to Avebury to the pub to warm ourselves up and dry out. Yes it was raining again! However, the weather did break long enough to take a few pictures of the stone circle.

We went back to the campsite and packed up, then said our goodbyes to our very close friends and travelled back to Chepstow in the still pouring rain! When we arrived back in Chepstow it was brilliant sunshine! So I cooked a bar-b-que for dinner!

I would just like to say a big thank you to all our dear close friends who came to celebrate Helen's birthday weekend in such terrible weather!
